YEAR 5/6 SCHOOL SWIMMING PROGRAM 2019
All year 5/6 students will be participating in an eight-day Swimming Program this term. The program, conducted by professional swimming instructors at Don Tatnell Leisure Centre, will develop the confidence and skills of all children, catering for non-swimmers through to those of squad level. Due to increasing school numbers we will run the 5/6 students as a separate program as we cannot fit all classes across a standard day. The remaining year levels will continue to have their swim program run in term 3.
Swimming lessons will be held from Monday 3 June to Monday 17 June at the following times:
|Monday 3 June||Tuesday 11 June|
|Tuesday 4 June||Wednesday 12 June|
|Wednesday 5 June||Friday 14 June|
|Friday 7 June (Water Safety Day)||Monday 17 June (Final Fun Day)|
|Session Time/s||1:00 - 1:45||1:45 - 2:30|
|Bus Pick-up from School (Time)||12:30||1:20|
|Bus Pick-up from Pool||2:00||2:50|
|Year Level||5/6 A & B||5/6 C & D|
All children will travel to and from the Swimming Centre by bus and will need to wear their bathers to school, underneath their uniform. Children will also need to bring spare underwear and a towel for changing afterwards. Swimming caps are not compulsory but if you would like to purchase one they will be available from the school office for $8.00 each. School students share the change rooms with the general public and teachers will be there to supervise students in the change area. Family change rooms may also be utilised on the pool deck for any parents who would like to assist their child.
Swimming lessons are an integral part of our Physical Education Program and all children are expected to attend. We do understand that there are some circumstances that prevent your child from swimming. If this is the case, then please send notification in writing as soon as you know they won’t be participating, so we can provide the Swimming Centre with an accurate number of participants, and remove the charges from your account.
Thank you to those of you who have already paid for this program. For those who have not yet paid, would you please make your payment as soon as possible (payment using Qkr is preferred). All money must be paid by Thursday 23 May. If you are not sure whether or not you have paid, please check the statement which was emailed to you (or sent home) on Monday 29 April, or ask at the office. If you did not receive a statement, you have no outstanding charges on your account.
The total cost of the program is $90.00 per child. This amount covers the cost of transport, pool admission and expert swimming instruction over 8 days. This price is for the whole program and unfortunately, there are no refunds for missed lessons. Parents wishing to use any CSEF credits on their account (if applicable) or who pay by BPay will need to tick the appropriate box on the slip attached and return it to the office. BPay codes are included on your account statement. Please fill in the permission slip provided separately, sign and return it to your child’s classroom teacher, along with your payment by Tuesday 21 May.
By the end of primary school, it is anticipated that students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills identified in the Victorian Water Safety Certificate. The Swimming in Schools initiative aims to ensure all students have the opportunity to learn how to swim and develop lifelong skills in water safety to reduce their risk of drowning and injury.
