Information and communication Technology
At Edithvale Primary School computers are a fully integrated part of the curriculum. The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre has been upgraded with new facilities including flat screen monitors and a data projector which is visible to all students as a learning tool.
Each grade is timetabled weekly in the ICT centre and students use a range of software programs and online resources. They learn to store their work for later publishing. Computers are also located within each classroom and are used on a daily basis for skill development, research and publishing.
Edithvale Primary School has implemented a whole school approach to the teaching and assessment of ICT knowledge, where skills are built upon for lifelong learning.
A Definition
The term curriculum covers all the arrangements the school makes for students' learning and development. It includes the content of programs, activities, teaching approaches and the ways in which teachers and classes are organised. It also includes decisions on the need for and use of facilities.
The Department of Education and the Board of Studies provide general curriculum guidelines to schools rather than very specific directions about what should be taught and how teachers should teach. These guidelines generally reflect the best and most current educational information available.
Using D.E.&T. guidelines, policies and programs, and the Board of Studies
Curriculum and Standards Framework, goals and objectives are decided at the school level. Teachers determine appropriate teaching approaches, strategies, learning activities and resources for their particular year level. This is achieved through cooperative planning with teams of teachers.
The curriculum is also inclusive. That is, our school provides a curriculum that appropriately addresses the diverse needs of all students. In planning and organising the curriculum, care is taken to ensure that gender, culture, social, economic and specific learning needs of individual students are addressed.
Edithvale Primary School also encourages parent and community involvement in the develpoment and implementation of curriculum policies and programs. We are committed to shared communication and continuous assessment & reporting practises.
