A message from our new School Council President

17-June-2021

Hi Everyone

I wanted to introduce myself as your new School Council President. My family and I moved to Edithvale last year, and my two daughters (Grades 1 and 2) moved to this wonderful school.

What struck me immediately is the warm community and tight knit feel here at EPS and I am delighted to be a part of the school community and to lead our School Council for the next 2 years.

I am lucky to have wonderful Councillors to work with and I am very excited about what we can achieve as a group together. Despite Covid interruptions, we have been off to a flying start with a number of events and fundraisers including the very  successful Twilight Market – led by Laura Moore and Lynda Lyons and supported by school council and a number of volunteers and also the Working Bee last term. We have also commenced work on the synthetic turf which has been a work in progress for a long time and it is great to see this project finally commence.

One thing that is particularly important to me, is to build a strong connection  between School Council and the broader community and to include your feedback in our decision making processes. So, from next term, we will start to share more information about who we are and how we can start to involve the school community in what we do.

What is the purpose of School Council? We are here to help James and his team set the strategic direction for the school and provide governance over the activities such as finance and events. We do not get involved in the day to day running of the school and any feedback or questions around that should always be directed back to the school. Some of the sub committees we have set up include Fundraising (we are always looking for  volunteers, please join!), Finance and Buildings & Grounds.

James sent out some communications recently regarding ideas for events and we would love to hear your ideas that will bring the school community together, particularly after the last couple of years of disruptions. Please send any ideas to the school and we will circle back next term on some fun events for us to start planning.

You can usually find me at pick-up outside the Grade 1 area near the basketball courts, so feel free to come and say hi at any stage!
